At Assen, Ducati and BMW have to contend with a reduction in fuel flow of 0.5 kg/h. This results in less fuel being injected in order to reduce the performance to balance the form factor on the track. According to what we saw in the morning, the striking aspect is to see as many as seven Ducatis ahead of everyone else in terms of speed.
The fastest is Bautista's, which touched 295 km/h, followed by the Rosse of Iannone, Bulega, Petrucci and Montella.
Toprak and the BMW, on the other hand, are 10 km/h slower than the Spaniard with the #19 plate. This is striking when we consider that the Yamahas of Locatelli and Aegerter are also faster than the M 1000 RR.
The reason for this we will ask Toprak at the end of the second free practice session. That said, there are a few aspects to consider: the first is where the speed is taken, considering that each rider lifts off differently from the others. Another could instead be the issue of the injected fuel flow. Or even the fact that BMW may have decided to "turn down the wick" after the probable failure of the Turk's engine on Friday at Portimao.
So far, regarding what happened to the Turk during FP1 in Portugal, to date no one knows anything. In fact, rumors in the paddock spoke of a probable engine failure, but there has been no confirmation of this. Thinking badly is a sin, but you're often right. Who knows, maybe BMW preferred to prevent it.
