MotoGP, Alex Marquez: "Marc was playing, in the Sprint he didn't push 100%."

"I think I could have gone down a couple of tenths on the pace. I had a solid race with no mistakes, what we need in Austin. Tomorrow will be an interesting day."

MotoGP: Alex Marquez:

While Marc has had a subscription to first place since the beginning of the year, his brother Alex is with second. In Austin, the two Marquez riders once again adhered to the script, which Bagnaia tried to enliven by overtaking in the first corner after the start. "A good show? As a spectator, for me - jokes the Spaniard of team Gresini recounting the initial stages of the Sprint - After turn 16, I told myself I had to try something because I didn't know what I was waiting for! I went to the inside of Pecco who attacked me at turn 19, we both went wide and Marc passed us both. It was a good first lap."

Also complicated?
"All three of us were trying to figure out what the conditions were because everything was very strange, difficult to understand. On the second lap, Marc was close to crashing in turn 7, you had to ride very smoothly trying not to make mistakes. It will be interesting to see what needs to be done tomorrow."

Was the rest of your race management?
"I tried to push and control the lead. In the first three laps I managed to be fast, then Pecco was closing in again, so I would push one lap and be calm another, I could see Marc was doing the same. At one point I got closer to him, but I could see he was playing games and in fact he got away again. It was a solid day and I did the race that is needed here, without any mistakes."

Do you think your brother showed his full potential today?
"Marc didn't push 100%, I mean he did for a few laps, but not for the whole race. He was holding a margin under braking, also because here it is very easy to make mistakes. Here, sometimes you push to gain a tenth and you find yourself losing five, it's a matter of compromise. Having said that, Marc could have kept a two-tenths faster pace today than he did."

How do you get close to Marc?
"He's very strong in the left-hand corners, I'm very strong in the right-hand ones, and I'm trying to improve in the others. But I lost a little bit of confidence after I saw that Marc was losing it, I told myself to keep it under control. Tomorrow I will have to forget about it and be as fast as in qualifying."

Is the new asphalt promoted?
"The vibrations are there, when there is so much grip with these tires it happens. Like last year in Qatar, it's something you have to control."
