Yamaha was on the upswing for the first two rounds of 2025 and, even if the road back to the top is still long and the M1's overall performance is not continuous enough to affirm that it recuperated entirely, it would be unfair not to say that the technical concessions have definitely brought results.
Fabio Quartararo also knows this, but he prefers to adopt a low profile, between pragmatism and realism, when it comes to the Japanese manufacturer's chances of redemption in the short term. "Before thinking about getting back to the top, it's best we don't end up every weekend wondering if there's a chance of getting into the Q2. On the contrary, we should always be able to place in the top ten on Friday," he said, when interviewed by GP Racing.
However, there have been some signs of recovery that are positive thanks, in part, to Fabio's own insistence. "At the time of the renewal, I asked for new entries, including engineers, a satellite team, and a change in project. Now it seems that everything has aligned. Yamaha has made a great effort in this regard, and I'm happy about it, although we'll still have to be patient," he stated.
For El Diablo, who's used to winning races and titles, ending up in the back, like what happened in recent seasons, wasn't easy. "When you realize that the bike at your disposal limits you, it's complicated and leads you to blame everyone. But I realize that, if Yamaha hadn't given me the opportunity to enter the MotoGP in 2019, I probably would never have made it. With time, I've learned to control my anger and frustration," he admitted, with a proactive spirit. "Now I have two world championships ahead of me, perhaps the most important of my career, and a lot of desire to help the team return to the top. For me, that's real motivation. At that point, I'll try not to waste time and get to the best place possible."
Instead, taking stock of his experience in the top class, the rider from Nice revealed: "The best was when I got there while most people claimed I wouldn't adapt. On the contrary, in the first year, I was able to win pole positions, first rows, and podiums. Worst of all was my aggressive criticism of the Japanese manufacturer in 2023. It was a complex phase, but I shouldn't have behaved like that," he confessed.
Finally, he commented on his colleagues. "Valentino Rossi was my childhood idol, but I now realize who Marquez is. He's very impressive. I remember the 2019 Thai GP. It would have been enough for him to finish behind Dovizioso to become champion and, instead, he did everything he could to win the race and add another to his record. His hunger for success and determination are remarkable, as is his willingness to come back after complex years, between injuries and fighting with Honda," he pointed out.
