MotoGP: Can Marquez Reclaim Glory with Ducati Lenovo?

The chapter Marc Marquez is currently working his way through is huge. The eight-time world champion joined the Ducati Lenovo Team for 2025, replacing Enea Bastianini and forming a blockbuster pairing with two-time title winner Pecco Bagnaia. The MotoGP grid hasn’t seen this kind of superteam since Rossi-Lorenzo or Marquez-Pedrosa.

The move signals Ducati’s ambition. They’ve united the sport’s most successful rider of the modern era with the man currently seen as the dominant force. For Marquez, it’s a chance to return to championship contention. He’s suffered from injuries and limitations to his hardware and then gone through a transitional stint with Gresini Ducati.

The significance of his move can’t be overstated. Marquez collected six MotoGP titles with Honda, but inconsistent results occurred from 2020 onwards, primarily due to injuries and a declining RC213V. When he made the switch to Gresini in 2024, there were some doubts about Marquez’s desire still being there, but they were quickly put to bed as he secured podiums and delivered thrilling rides aboard year-old machinery.

In many ways, his stint at Gresini was an audition, and it wasn’t long before Ducati decided to bring Marquez into the fold. Now, the big question is: Can the dream duo of Marquez and Bagnaia coexist> And can Marquez finally reclaim his MotoGP crown? They’re questions that will be answered this season.

Sports betting online indicates that Marquez is already seen as the man to beat for the 2025 MotoGP title. Bookmarkers are undoubtedly seeing the combination of Ducati’s engineering excellence and Marquez’s talent as a winning formula, a formula that is of championship calibre.

But success is going to be far from automatic. Marquez is riding for a team where there is already an established #1 rider. Bagnaia has earned his position at Ducati. They trust him and believe in him, and the Spaniard must respect this. Otherwise, things may become tense if on-track battles escalate. Ducati will need to manage both egos and expectations carefully, avoiding mistakes of the past, as seen in the Lorenzo-Dovizioso days.

That said, what will work in Ducati’s favour is that there is already a high level of mutual respect between Bagnaia and Marquez, and both riders understand the stakes. For the former, he will be keen to hold his ground and prove he’s got what it takes against one of the sport’s all-time greats. The latter, Marquez, will be eager to show he’s still got what it takes to compete and dominate at the very highest level.

What all the above makes for is a thrilling season and an exciting watch in the short and mid-term. When a team has two top riders in the form of Marquez and Bagnaia, while it can lead to problems, it can also lead to success. In these kinds of situations, two top riders will be competing against each other, pushing each other on to do better, and this should produce glory for Ducati. Marquez will hope it will be him who personally delivers it, though.
