MotoGP: MotoGP teams up with artificial intelligence against piracy

MotoGP has extended its long-term partnership with Sportian, the sports division of Globant, to combat piracy, the partnership having achieved breakthrough results in removing illegal content. Since it began its anti-piracy partnership with LALIGA, co-founder of Sportian, more than five years ago, MotoGP has succeeded in tracking and removing illegal broadcasts through social media, apps, video-on-demand (VOD) services, search engines and illegal streaming sites.

In the future, the partnership intends to explore the integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies to support the detection and categorization of pirated content to aid the ongoing fight against audiovisual theft. Piracy Guard provides MotoGP with reactive removal of illegal content and proactive monitoring of emerging threats. Over the next year, Sportian will continue to refine these services to adapt to emerging threats, providing proactive security assessments to detect and block new vulnerabilities that may emerge in the broadcast landscape, and leveraging automation and predictive analytics to adapt to evolving piracy tactics.

Piracy Guard, a combination of powerful detection tools and expert analyst monitoring, ensures that unauthorized streams are identified in real time and quickly removed. Created by LALIGA's in-house team, Piracy Guard boasts partnerships with more than 70 of the world's largest online platforms and Google's TCRP certification, the solution routinely achieves a removal rate of more than 90 percent while gathering insights and information to support subsequent legal action and dynamic blocking orders.

Dan Rossomondo, Chief Commercial Officer of Dorna Sports, MotoGP rights holder, said, "Globant Sportian has been a valuable partner in safeguarding our content over the past five years. Their technology and expertise have significantly reduced the impact of piracy on our sport, ensuring that our global audience continues to enjoy the world's most exciting sport through the official broadcasters who invest to create a top-quality viewing experience."

Pablo Lo Giudice, Business Lead for Content Protection at Sportian, added, "MotoGP is a pioneer in protecting sports content for the digital era and we are proud to extend our successful partnership. Our ability to achieve continued improvements, even while the volume of piracy increases, is testament to MotoGP and WorldSBK's commitment to stay one step ahead in this fight and demonstrate best practices in the sports industry. As we continue to incorporate the latest AI tools into our product suite, we will continue to evolve our offering to ensure sports content remains secure and accessible through official channels."
