MotoGP, Augusto Fernandez at Austin in place of Oliveira

MotoGP: Augusto Fernandez at Austin in place of Oliveira

Augusto Fernandez was all ready to return to the races riding the Yamaha R1 orphaned by Jonathan Rea. The Spaniard also participated in the two-day test at Portimao in preparation for the race, but the tables have turned in the last few hours due to the injury suffered by Miguel Oliveira at Termas on the Team Pramac Yamaha. In fact, the Portuguese will have to skip the American MotoGP round, and Yamaha has decided to field Augusto himself on the M1.

This is a rather abrupt change of plans, with Yamaha not currently indicating who will be riding in Portimao in Rea's place. In fact, the MotoGP and SBK races will take place on the same weekend from March 28 to 30, and perhaps it has been decided to prioritize MotoGP by once again giving space on the track to the former KTM rider, who has been an official tester for the Iwata manufacturer since the end of 2024.
