Marc Marquez, him again, for the fourth consecutive time. After Buriram, the #93 captured the spotlight once again at Termas de Rio Hondo, playing the lead role. On the one hand the Spaniard can smile, while on the other Bagnaia is forced to lick his wounds.
We talked about this and much more with Alberto Vergani, who with clarity outlined the current situation after the second round on Argentine soil.
"After these first two races I think a key aspect has emerged - began the manager from Milan - The GP23 mystified the values on the track. To date the thermometer is Alex Marquez, who with the GP24 is second in the World Championship and even ahead of Bagnaia. I think the big picture of the situation is quite clear with a serene, happy and carefree Marc Marquez, but above all free."
Did you expect this Marquez?
"Marc is a free rider, who has come back from hell, he is a kind of Messiah, making everyone around him feel good. He has come to have full self-awareness, since last year, and today he is reaping it all. I don't think even in Honda's time he had this serenity, plus he has expressed a very clear concept, which is, "I don't have to prove anything to anyone." This relieves him of any burden, and today we find him winning again."
What do you think of Bagnaia's situation?
"Pecco is struggling with his own psyche. Regarding the moment he is facing I have a personal opinion: Bagnaia must take note of the situation, without thinking about the other side of the box, even if Marquez wins all the races. He has to think about himself, to work, without being overcome by discouragement. I feel sorry for Bagnaia, because I see him very stiff on the bike and loaded with pressure, and this is all wrong. He has won 3 world championships and he has to take off all these burdens he has, starting with Marquez. He doesn't have to give a damn about Marquez and the results he gets. Only by freeing his mind can he become strong and fast again, as Bagnaia is a champion and we know his worth."
Did Alex Marquez surprise you?
"The GP24 has given Alex a smile, because all the difficulties he had with the GP23 are gone. He is doing something great and I see him serene, happy, aware. He is running without any burden or pressure, just like his brother. He wants to win, but it's hard to fight right now against a champion like Marc."
In all this, Dall'Igna is enjoying the moment....
"Gigi knows his bike better than anyone, and the words he spoke before the Barcelona test say it all: "Marquez has done inexplicable things with the GP23." That's it, that's the picture of everything, which best renders the perception of everything."
Do you think the World Championship is already written?
"We are just at the beginning, there are still so many races to go, but Marquez has already made his level clear, as well as the fact that he has some margin riding the bike. Bagnaia has to do a sort of reset, accept the condition and go from there to get back to having fun on the bike. Here, Pecco's priority is to get back to having fun on the Ducati, then later he will think about how to beat Marc."
