MotoGP, Bastianini: "It's hard to accept being at the back, but I'm slow"

"I won't accept it. Tomorrow we'll try other solutions again. I want to at least be in the top ten. It's early to determine. I'll wait three or four races before taking stock of my situation."

MotoGP: Bastianini:

Everyone imagined that Enea Bastianini's Saturday in Argetina would be complicated, since the rider from Rimini was still lost in that maze of technical solutions that yesterday he called "a disaster", and all in an increasingly necessary attempt to figure out his KTM. Relegated to the bottom of the Q1 and forced to start from the 21st box on the grid, the Bestia then had to tenaciously give it his all in order to end the Sprint in a 14th place. But that was, obviously, not enough. "I won't accept being at the back", he said to reporters, admitting with a smile that probably hides a more than justified frustration.

"It was a difficult day, like yesterday," Enea explained. "Normally, in the race, I have something more. Today, I gave it my all to recuperate positions, because it's hard to accept being at the back. But, to be honest, I'm slow. I can't replicate the same movements on the bike every lap. I make mistakes every time, and that's a problem. Tomorrow we'll try something different again, because we're looking for something that allows me to be more competitive, since I want to at least be in the top ten."

What's the aspect of riding this KTM that gives you the most trouble?
"If you watch my riding style in the race... Oh yeah, you can't see me because I'm at the back!" Enea, in a self-deprecating manner, said jokingly. "From my point of view, I can brake very hard and, when you can do that, you can overtake your opponents. This is a positive aspect. It's the strong point of this bike. But, otherwise, in mid corner, we struggle. We're forced to close the throttle, so we lose a lot of time. We're trying various options, positions, set-ups, but nothing has changed so far. We'll try another modification for tomorrow. I really want to get to work, because I don't accept being at the back."

Besides this weekend's results, can this track help you in this process of adaptation?
"It's not one of my favorite tracks, although I was fast here in the past with Ducati. In Austin, things will definitely be better, but it's too early to make overall judgments. We're only at the second GP, and I'd rather wait for the first three or four races to take stock of my situation."
