MotoGP, Quartararo: "The tires overheat and we have no grip"

"The softs were a disappointment. Tomorrow we will have to try the medium ones. Today after pushing at the beginning I suffered a heavy drop." Rins: "there is no room for improvement. Honda for now is superior"

MotoGP: Quartararo:

The hope after Friday's day was to get close to the best and instead Yamaha had several difficulties that did not allow it to express itself as it would have liked in the Sprint Race. Fabio Quartararo finished tenth and Alex Rins twelfth and with many doubts for the GP where both know they will suffer.

"I pushed a lot in the first laps, then I dropped a lot in the second part - the Frenchman analyzed - I tried to give my best in the start, but as is now customary the grip was not optimal and this affected the course of the race and did not allow me to do anything more."

To date, the M1 seems to be in better shape in the time attack than over the distance. "Actually on the single lap also this morning it performed well, however I expected to be more incisive and I wasn't. On this circuit the tires get very hot and drop significantly. I honestly did not expect to struggle so much," he admitted.

Talking about the tire choice for Sunday El Diablo instead said, "We will have to try the medium, because the choice of soft in the Sprint did not prove to be successful. It was definitely not easy."

Rins: "at the moment we have no room for improvement."

Realist about the criticalities that still characterize the Japanese manufacturer's bike, his teammate commented dryly, "You are only happy when you win, however I gave my best. At the moment we have no room for improvement. We have limits in terms of grip. Maybe we can do well one lap, but then maintaining the pace becomes complicated. The drop is important, so in the box they will have to find a solution, as it is not possible to get more out of the bike. Honda is better placed than us at least in these conditions."

About the helmet paying homage to Diego Armando Maradona, the Spaniard went on to explain, "Every time I come here it's a thrill and I wanted to celebrate the country. He is a local hero, so I was pleased to celebrate him and to see that my choice was appreciated by the Argentineans."

On the technical front, Yamaha opted for different rims than the other manufacturers. "Will it be something to work on in Austin? I have no idea." Finally,on the possibility of a new rule that would allow those who have to chase to have more private testing available, especially if they have been forced to miss some races, he concluded, "Being able to spend more time on the track is always positive."
