Fabio Di Giannantonio also finished in the top five of the Termas de Rio Hondo Sprint. It was certainly an encouraging result for the Roman, who on the Ducati confirms his improvement after returning to action from Thailand.
From the VR46 rider there was therefore a big smile at the end of Saturday's race.
"I always expect a lot from myself and I must say that it was a positive day," he said, "in fact, we cannot be disappointed about what we did. I wanted to start at the front and fight with Pecco for the podium, but the qualifying set-up was not optimal, in fact it affected us."
What kind of race was it?
"In the race I made some mistakes, in fact I was too aggressive in some circumstances. However, we have to be satisfied, because as already said our goal is to be with Pecco and today he was not very far away."
How are you physically?
"It's a circle: because first you feel some pain, then it tends to increase, finally at rest it goes away, but then it comes back. I hope not to have discomfort ahead of the race."
What should we expect for tomorrow's GP?
"In my opinion, those in front must be a little worried, because we have a good pace and we can manage the tires well. In fact, I think I can be the underdog."
Echoing Fabio Di Giannantonio's words was Franco Morbidelli, seventh at the finish behind Bezzecchi's Aprilia.
"Despite a bad start, I think I had a positive Sprint - he commented - when I latched onto the top five, however, I didn't have a chance to attack. I tried to stay there and in the end it finished as you know."
Physically, how are you doing?
"I'm not feeling very well. After lunch I had some problems with nausea and severe headache. I hope it will be better on Sunday."
