The crash in pre-qualifying could have cost Bagnaia very dearly. It was the final minutes of the session, Pecco was on his last time attack, when he crashed at turn 2 of the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit. The accident had no physical consequences, but when he returned to the pits there was too little time left to get back on track. The rider from Piedmont could do nothing but look at the time screen and wait.
In the end it worked out well for him: with the 10th time he entered Q2 directly by a whisker. "I knew I had margin after the first attempt: I entered the corner with less brake and tighter. I was pushing, fair enough," he explained of the dynamics.
