Pecco Bagnaia left Thailand with two third places and his morale down bad. Not being able to fight with the Marquez brothers did not go down well with him and, in a behind-the-scenes video, the rider from Piedmont also raised doubts with Gigi Dall'Igna about the proper functioning of the tyres.
Some 10 days have gone by since that Sunday, and Pecco got another look at those images in Argentina. "Honestly, I can say that I had a good weekend, that I got a good result considering the situation. Everything that was under our control was done and the rest didn't work well - he didn't mince his words - However, I improved throughout the weekend and finished on the podium, which is not normally my goal, but it's not bad either considering the situation we were in."
In Buriram Marc Marquez was unrivaled, but Bagnaia cannot and should not think that this will be the norm.
"In Thailand I struggled since the first day of testing, I had problems and I was not able to finish the work in time, I had to do it in the GP - he recalls - I was not ready to fight for the victory, I tried but I was not fast enough. It was different in Malaysia though, I was fast there. I can say I learned an important lesson last year: you have to finish races and 3rd place was the best possible result in Buriram."
Now Argentina awaits him. The Marquez brothers claim they did a practice lap of the track by running and did not find it that bad.
"I walked and I saw the dirt better - Pecco laughs - I did two laps and the circuit is not in the best condition, but I have to learn from the mistakes I made in Thailand. I know this is a track where I have to work harder."
Also because, in his entire career, at Termas de Rio Hondo he has not only never won, but he has not even been on the podium.
"The last time we raced here, I crashed once when I was 2nd for a penultimate corner mistake. In previous years, I always made some mistakes. But I like this track and I think it can adapt well to my riding style. After all, there is always a first time," he smiles.
Will the two Marquez riders still be the main rivals?
"Let's see, they will definitely be competitive, like the other Ducati riders and also Aprilia and KTM - was his answer - It will not be an easy weekend for anyone, also because the track will improve session after session, we will have to understand the conditions well and be ready."
Bagnaia also wanted to wish his friend Martin, who was in a video link from home to give an update on his physical condition.
"Forza! We need the number 1 on the track! It's always intense fighting with you, so I hope you'll be back soon ... but not too much, take your time," he joked.
Finally, he commented on the agreement reached with Pirelli as the new single tyre supplier starting in 2027.
"I don't know what to say because I've never had such an experience, but I'm sure they will do a great job. Like Michelin, which achieved incredible performance. Let's wait, it won't be easy to develop new bikes and tyres at the same time, but a change can be fun."
