Fabio Quartararo was the protagonist of a very special test on an official Yamaha bike. We are not talking about the MotoGP bike with the new V4 engine that has been talked about for some time, but the YZ450FM that races in the MXGP championship. The Frenchman has always been a big motocross fan and this time he was able to put himself to the test with a special training partner, his compatriot Maxime Renaux, MX2 world champion in 2021. A day documented in the video you can see above.
For once, Fabio left his leather race suit at home and got dirty in the mud. With a lot of fun, of course, because Quartararo did not want to waste the opportunity and was very impressed by how strong the official bike goes. "Compared to the one I'm used to, everything is stiffer, the steering and the suspension. The engine is beautiful, underneath it's sweet, but as soon as you open it takes you away," was his first comment.
Reanux was surprised by Fabio's pugnacity between jumps and channels, and the MotoGP rider was not afraid to measure up in a challenge against the stopwatch. Of course, the cross specialist won it, with a time of 2'04"06 against Quartararo's 2'20"09.
The rematch, however, is already on the agenda, and this time it will be on asphalt. The cross champion will find a real mountain to climb between the kerbs.
