After the intense storm that caused numerous accidents both in the rural area near the Jerez-Ángel Nieto Circuit and at the circuit itself, work has already begun to prepare the facilities so that they can become operative again, as soon as possible. Since the early morning hours of yesterday, workers have been cleaning the circuit, which will last several days.
For the peace of mind of the fans, the Circuito de Jerez guaranteed that the work being carried out will ensure that the Spanish Grand Prix will be held as scheduled, from April 25th to 27th. The Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto has provided all the resources needed to begin operations, as soon as possible.
According to rain gauges from farms around the circuit, more than 120 liters of water per square meter fell in the area on Monday afternoon in less than half an hour, which caused an intense concentration in some areas of the circuit, especially at the turns near the Arroyo del Gato, which runs along the inside of the track, where it overflowed, flooding the ride-off areas of Turns 7, 8 and 11 with water, mud, and gravel.
However, the area most damaged by this flooding was Turn 13, the one dedicated to Jorge Lorenzo. Not so much the turn itself, which is in top condition, but the ride-off asphalt on the right side, which came up in several places and will need to be repaired.
Luckily, none of the staff present at the circuit yesterday was injured.
Our own Marco Caregnato, who was in Jerez for a test on the Yamaha R9, documented the conditions of the circuit yesterday, showing the damage the rain caused to the pit shutters.
