SBK, Iannone: "Today I redeemed myself. Toprak? Races are not decided at the start."

"If I had started one pkace ahead I would have been in that advanced position at that point and maybe I wouldn't be here telling this story now and I wouldn't even have been able to do Race 2."

SBK: Iannone:

In an Australian weekend that was dominated by Bulega, Andrea Iannone still managed to make a name for himself by taking second place in the Superpole Race and then finishing on the third step of the podium in Race 2. A decidedly positive result after the tire issues suffered on Saturday.

"Yesterday I couldn't do anything about it. Sometimes things don't turn out the way they should. It can happen to anyone. Last year Nicolò was fighting for the World Championship and in Aragon what happened happened. Hopefully it won't happen again in crucial moments like a race and then for the rest we will try to handle everything in the best possible way," he analyzed his weekend at Phillip Island.

"Today I made up for it. Let's say we came in a bit of a rush since we had to change bikes between the Superpole Race and Race 2. The uncertainties should not have been there, on the contrary we should have arrived on the grid calm and relaxed, as well as ready. We tried to fix some things during the weekend, but we still need to improve. I hope it is not already too late," he pointed out.

"We finished close to the official riders, which means we did our homework. It's clear that every rider would like to win, however, we need to be honest with ourselves and humble as a team, so we know that there will be some races where we can have our say and we need to take advantage of the opportunity, others less so. I think we got the most out of it here. Of course some things could have been done differently, but that's okay. It's a third place that I accept because anyway, despite some little problems I felt quite comfortable in the afternoon unlike in the morning," he reflected.

Speaking instead of the somewhat reckless overtaking attempt by Razgatlioglu, the man from Abruzzo said, "Toprak is a champion and I respect him, but races are not decided on the first lap. If I had started one place ahead I would have been at that point in an advanced position and maybe now I would not be here telling this story or even be able to do Race 2. This we cannot afford. I understand that everyone wants to win, but it's okay to be clear-headed. Clearly it was not an intentional maneuver, however we have to be careful."

Finally, when asked if he goes away from the Antipodes more or less with a smile on his face than the last championship he concluded, "This year I go away more satisfied as we improved the result we got and that is our goal at the moment. We come out of here with more points and consistency and that is crucial."
