SBK, Bulega: “No omnipotence, Stoner was the King, the God of Phillip Island”

“One year ago I won, but it was more like do or die! When you ride like that you don’t even get angry. Toprak? I imagined he would be there, he found his way again”

SBK: Bulega: “No omnipotence, Stoner was the King, the God of Phillip Island”

From what we’ve seen so far, Nicolò Bulega could take up residence in Phillip Island and move here. It has been a dream of a week for the Aruba rider, who after topping the timesheets in the tests and free practice, also confirmed the result in qualifying and race 1.

What can we say: hats off to the number 11, because doing more was truly impossible. Race 1 was in fact a monologue and Nicolo dominated from the first to the last lap, without leaving the slightest opening for his opponents.

“I’m very happy with this victory – he said – before the race I was a bit worried, because there was the flag to flag, then it was much hotter than the previous days. In the end, however, we managed to make concrete the result, bringing home a great victory. Honestly, I didn't expect this margin in the race, also considering the tire change. Then I was surprised by the advantage I had”.

What was your plan?
“I pushed a lot at the beginning, in fact my goal was to break away. When I saw such a large margin, I tried to manage it, especially after the flag to flag, going at 99% of what were my normal possibilities”

Do you remember a start like that?
“Of course! Aragon, the year of the SuperSport title victory. I admit, however, that I was a bit worried, because my pit stop box wasn't the favorable one, in fact I was on the inside. However, everything went well and I'm really happy”.

What's the difference between this year's victory and last year's?
“I liked last year's victory more, because it was unexpected. Today I'm certainly very happy, because we dominated it since the tests and this performance gives us energy. A year ago it was: do or die. This year, however, we worked hard to get to be so competitive”.

Is there a bit of omnipotence for what you have shown this week?
“No! Also because it hasn’t happened to me so many times in my life to feel good. It’s nice, because you enjoy riding and you don’t even get angry if there are problems. You ride fast, but in a relaxed way and it’s not a given. Of course, to do it like this again, it’s not going to be easy”.

Did you imagine seeing Toprak second?
“I knew he would be there, in fact he finished behind me. He just lost his way following the right path while today they returned to the tried and tested base and this is the result”.

In the post-race, in the video we made and you can see below, we asked Nicolò what he thinks of what Petrucci said, that is, that his style is the opposite of Stoner’s, but profitable.

“Casey was the King, he was the God of Phillip Island. I'm happy, I'm riding well, given that it's my favourite track and I'm putting into practice what I had in mind."
