SBK, Toprak: "I can't explain the crash, everything was destroyed with the new regulations"

"I opened the throttle to 39 percent and flew through the air. Before Christmas we did a test with the old chassis and the bike was perfect. Thanks to the new regulations Ducati is strong, but we are still confident"

SBK: Toprak:

Toprak Razgatlioglu ended the first day of testing at Phillip Island with the third fastest time. In the morning the Turkish champion was the protagonist of a violent highside, which forced him to miss the entire session.

Only in the afternoon did he return to the track, concluding the session behind Iannone.

"For me, it was a very strange crash," he said. "We checked the data. I’ve got 39% gas and I highsided because the traction wasn’t working there. I spoke with my electronics guy. He checked why it wasn’t working and he didn’t know. I’m lucky nothing is broken but I feel pain everywhere, especially in my hand. In the afternoon, I rode again because I needed to ride to understand the bike and work on setup."

Physically what is your condition?
"Now I am tired and, as already mentioned, I am feeling pain, although I think I will be better ahead of the race weekend."

Toprak, how did you find the new BMW with the non-supercharged stock chassis?
"The new chassis is better, in fact the bike turns better in the wind, because with the old wings it didn't turn. I found good sensations, especially in the last passage. I even managed to pass Iannone, getting into the 1'29s".

Ducati here seems uncatchable with Bulega...
"Ducati is very strong, also aided by the change in regulations. The 2025 bike is not yet 100 percent ready, but it still seems competitive. At the moment we are using the new bike, but we need to improve, especially in suspension and chassis. The feelings are more or less similar, in the end, however, rules are rules."

What was the best solution for you?
"The old chassis and the new aerodynamics. Before Christmas we did a test, finding a big step in terms of improvement and performance. But then everything was destroyed. Too bad, we have to work, even if we manage to be stronger and stronger despite the regulation changes."

Will you change your approach to the weekend?
"No. Today after the crash I had even more desire to adapt the bike to what was required. Overall I had a good session in the afternoon, finding a good pace. I didn't use the SC0 to look for a time at the end of the day, as I was focused on finding the best setup."
