SBK, Yamaha: no new engine at Phillip Island

SBK: Yamaha: no new engine at Phillip Island

The goal is to close the gap with the competition. They're looking for solutions at Yamaha, and the engine has ended up under the magnifying glass, since that's where the R1 hass the most problems compared to other manufacturers.

So they're all working hard in Gerno di Lesmo, with the goal of having an engine with a higher performance, thanks to the super concessions: the moment a manufacturer is eligible for for them, it must apply to the FIM, fourteen laps before the race, to then be homologated.

Yamaha has, therefore, been working over the past few months, as it tries to get some more horsepower from its engine. Unfortunately, though, this innovation isn't yet available to the riders.

And, as if that weren't enough, the bad weather certainly hasn't help, as it actually slowed down the possibility of testing in optimal conditions and reaching a conclusion. That's why there won't be anything new on that front at Phillip Island.

They'll just have to wait for the second round in Portimão, scheduled for the end of March.
