In the top ten of the last day of testing there is a Yamaha, and it is that of Fabio Quartararo. The Frenchman in fact grabbed the last available spot in the top ten, picking up a gap of 963 thousandths from Marc Marquez over the one lap.
The problems seem to be the usual ones, and El Diablo is well aware of them.
"We did a simulation of the Sprint, a time attack, and I think it was a positive day," he began, "unfortunately I struggled with the front and we hope to solve it ahead of the race weekend. In Sepang the conditions were different and I was like 2-3 tenths short over the one lap. On the pace, however, we were at the same level as in Malaysia, which was three tenths from the best. In the end that was what I expected. I was surprised, however, by the front limitations that emerged."
What are the pros and cons that emerged?
"We did not improve in traction as grip, but in top speed, something we lacked. However, we lack speed in cornering, and this we suffer because of the front."
What is the goal for the start of the World Championship?
"I don't have a goal, much less an expectation. We have to improve and think that we are making progress at the moment. The goal is to be ready before the race."
With the tires, on the other hand?
"The behavior is the same as last year."
Rins: "I'm not happy with the one lap, Fabio is more aggressive."
Echoing his words is Alex Rins, who obtained 15th quickest time at one second and three tenths from the top.
"My balance is positive," he began, "I am satisfied with the work done and with all the material we tried. On the one lap, however, I am not happy. Among other things, I used two tires and I couldn't get where I wanted to be, since everyone else was improving while I wasn't. However, we are ready for the start of the World Championship, aiming to have more consistency."
Where does Quartararo make a difference?
"The certain thing, comparing with Fabio, is that in the first five corners I don't lose anything, while in the next ones I struggle. I don't know if it depends on aggressiveness, grip, traction or use of gas. We have to analyze and evaluate."
How will you experience the start of the season?
"I want to be calm, because we have worked a lot and I think we can improve."
