The winter has come to an end, and it was a success for Franco Morbidelli. The new VR46 team rider needed peace of mind to work well and get to know the new team, after he missed all the tests last year due to an injury. Now he's in a completely different situation and, above all, a much more promising one. "I'm very happy again today," the Brazilian rider from Tavullia began. "It was the last day of winter tests, and everything looks very promising. I had a great start with the new team. We work very well together. They're guys with a lot of passion. I and Matteo (ed. Flamigni, his crew chief) understand each other well because I grew up with that philosophy of racing. We hit it off right away."
Franco wanted to tell about the work carried out. "We worked without glitches and flaws, except from a small slip up in Sepang. We managed to finish our program early and do even more, as well as being fast every day, all day long. It was definitely a great winter test even if it's difficult to compare to others, because each year is its own story."
He also tested himself in a race simulation.
It went well. It was really hot. I did a race distance simulation and my pace was decent," he explained. "There seems to be a big group behind Marc, who's the man to beat. But, on a race weekend, things could change a bit. Bezzecchi was also very fast. He did a great job in these tests."
For many, Marquez will be the reference in the first GP of the year, even for Franco.
"It looks like I'll have to progress to catch up with Marc, especially in the flying lap, but also with the pace," he explained. "I have to take a look at his data."
He'll have a few days to study them properly.
"We did a good job, and I feel quite prepared for this season. Now I have to train and relax as much as possible. I'll watch the final of the Sanremo Festival. Then I'll have to remember to take the plane to come to the first competition," he said, jokingly.
Speaking of the Festival, which singer does Morbidelli recognize himself in?
"I have to choose Lucio Corsi, because I know him, and I like him a lot. I'd like to be unique like him," he concluded.
