Twelfth at the end of his first day of testing at the Buriram circuit, Fabio Quartararo appeared far from satisfied. While the three-day Sepang test had ended with encouraging signs, the preview of the last winter session didn't offer the confirmation that was hoped for.
"It was a strange day for us. For the first time in my career, I didn't feel good with any compound for the front, so I struggled to ride and be fast. Hopefully, the track will improve tomorrow and allow me to ride as I like because, even though I tested many things today, I couldn't give it my all," the French rider vented.
Besides these proble,s what were your sensations?
"I was in Alex Marquez's slipstream for a few laps, but imaking a comparison is hard if one has a tire with eighteen laps and the other with five, but we improved a lot on the straights."
How do you rate the 2025 M1?
"In general, the bike is a step ahead of the 2024 version. We're in a good position but, like I saud, the poor grip today made me feel completely lost. Above all, I didn't feel comfortable with the front, which is one of our strengths. But other things we tried out gave good feedback."
Did you test the behavior of the new frame?
"No, we focused on other things and the electronics."
Are the concessions helping you?
"Yes. In fact, on the engine and aerodynamics front, the bike is ready, and these are two important components to homologate for the first race. The frame, on the other hand, will be a matter for the future, and we won't even deal with it tomorrow."
Does your bike seem more stable than last year's?
"Yes, it does, but that's because I haven't yet braked hard with the front. It's taking the bike to the limit that changes its behavior. I'm sure that when I push tomorrow, it'll start moving again."
What didn't work about the front tire?
"I don't know. I didn't understand what happened. Usually it's one tire that's not liked, but both is something new."
What's your plan for tomorrow?
"We'll probably do long runs, but we have more to think about. Regaining confidence with the front is a priority, and then there's the electronics to review."
