MotoGP, Bagnaia: "If we chose the 2025 engine, we could find ourselves in limbo."

"It has a lot of potential, but we can't get it right under braking. Today I can't help with the choice because nothing worked on the bike, it was an unlucky day."

MotoGP: Bagnaia:

While on one side of the Ducati box there is a fast and happy Marquez, confident of the road ahead, on the other there is a disappointed and confused Bagnaia. For the Italian, the first day of testing at Buriram was a succession of problems that slowed the work and made it difficult to draw conclusions. Including the one about which engine to use. Marc on the other hand is confident about 2024.

"It's a choice that has to be made in an intelligent way," Pecco underlined, "The GP24 is a great base, it works perfectly, we see it also with the other riders who are using it in these tests. The 2025, on the other hand, in my opinion has a lot of potential, but we are struggling to square the circle in braking. It would be a risk to start with that in the new season and find ourselves in limbo, it might work as well as it might not. Right now, the needle of the scales is leaning a little more toward the 2024, and tomorrow we will draw the final conclusions."

Not only on that...

"Aerodynamics is also crucial, because we can only change it once. The 2024 works very well, but today I did some laps with the 2025 one. I am not too clear because I had other problems, but I was not slow. Tomorrow I will focus again to try it," was the plan.

Of things to do he will have a lot, because he was able to do very little today.

"I would call it an unlucky day," he branded it, "Not a single thing worked, the only positive sign I got was from a setting change made at the end of the day. Otherwise, mechanically we had several difficulties, but on the other side of the box the same things worked and that gives us confidence. Hopefully, it was simply an unfortunate day and tomorrow will go smoothly."

When asked what happened, he has no answer.

"At the moment no, but it's pretty clear what can happen when you have certain misfortunes, even assembly misfortunes," he explained, "We had several problems, at one point I was stopped almost an hour and a half in the pit. However, my team did a great job allowing me to lap given the conditions we were in, it was tough."

All in all, the balance is still not so negative.

"Honestly, considering my day, being 8 tenths from the first is not bad, I thought I would be further back also because I didn't do a time attack - said Bagnaia - I feel good, physically I'm in good shape and I can do what I want, it only needs that tomorrow things go a little better because certain important decisions have to be made together and right now, the way my day went, I can't help things, not even my data. Many things will have to be done again because today was unbelievable, I had so many slowdowns because of so many issues."
