The first taste of 2025 on the Sepang track saw him finish in ninth place. Marco Bezzecchi has arrived at Buriram with cautious optimism, after getting many of the hoped-for answers already in Malaysia. Immediately at ease in the RS-GP25, however, the Romagna native made no secret of the fact that he missed Martin, who was injured in the first session that had just started and unable to return to the track and have his say on which direction to take.
"Although we were able to complete the program in Sepang, we still have things to try and then we have to start preparing for the race weekend. It will be important to finish verifying the new stuff on Wednesday and immediately move on to work on the setting and riding style," he said.
Is five days of testing enough time to get to know a new bike?
"You have to make it enough. I will have to try to be at the best level possible. Clearly I would have liked more. Would it have changed anything to have twice as many? I don't know, because tests are complicated. They are important, but you can get confused. It's better to compete. I personally feel that having an extra day here would have been ideal."
Did the launch of the new bike in Bangkok take away from your time with the team?
"No, I really enjoyed it and I think it was the right time to do it. It was challenging, but every year is like that. It was particularly so for me because I changed teams, but that's okay, and then anyway the team guys didn't come to the presentation, so they could focus on the data."
What was your main concern on the eve?
"The electronics, but we still have to work on everything, including aerodynamics and my riding style. Not being able to count on Jorge affected everything a little bit, but that's the way it was and I shouldn't complain. It will be up to me to adapt to the bike and get to know it."
Do you never put up pictures of your training?
"I train too much to put any and I don't add any details."
How has the start of 2025 gone so far?
"In Malaysia I had three good and positive days. I gathered a lot of information both about how the bike is going and how it is riding. This is a different track from Sepang. Only the braking is similar, Brembo category 5, otherwise they have little in common. That said, we have a few more pieces left to choose from and we have to prepare for the race weekend. It is fortunate to be able to ride a few days in advance at the circuit that will host the season opener. Overall it was a smooth approach to the championship, although I would like to understand the bike quickly."
They were very pleased in the Aprilia box with your approach?
"It's good to know and I'm happy with that, but I didn't behave any differently than usual."
Did you hear from Martin after the test?
"Yes, I wrote him a few days after to hear how he was doing and then briefed him on the work. I preferred to wait so as not to disturb him, since I imagine he was upset about the crash."
