World champion, Jorge Martin, will be missing due to the accident during the first day of testing in Malaysia's Sepang, but his Aprilia with the number 1 on the fairing will be there.
But how much does it really matter, the number to place on the fairing which so many riders have fought for since 1949? Very much, little, very little? Today, in the age of the Internet probably the last answer is the right one since while in the days of Barry Sheene the iconic #7 was instantly recognizable for insiders, today they remember the legendary 46, 99, 93, perhaps 63 and really very few others.
But so be it, the first appointment of the season with MotoGP is over and the second is just around the corner, at Buriram. MotoGP arrives in the Thai capital of Bangkok for the first launch event of the season: whatever, it's copied from the new F1 modus operandi, but that's the way motorsports is going now: sport and show, not necessarily in that order.
Admission to the event is free - for those in Bangkok - but it will be streamed live worldwide (HERE THE LIVE). The fan show will be held at One Bangkok, a new complex in the city center. There, all the riders and teams will take to the stage to greet fans, as well as have a chance to meet them and enjoy music and entertainment. The riders will also participate in a street show! We have seen a few pictures where towing carts with MotoGPs are the Tuk-Tuks, the popular (and poor) means of transportation in the Capital. The show is today, live from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. local time, 9:30 a.m. in Europe.
