As expected, Jorge Martin returned to Spain and underwent surgery on his hand. The operation was necessary following the consequences of the spectacularly violent high-side he had on the first day of MotoGP testing at the Sepang circuit, in which he suffered a fracture of the head of the 5th metacarpal of his right hand and a fracture of the 3rd, 4th and 5th metatarsals of his left foot.
Spending a night at Aurelius Hospital in Nilai, the reigning world champion then returned to Europe and on Friday morning at the Quirón Dexeus Clinic in Barcelona he was successfully operated on by Dr. Xavier Mir and the compound fracture was reduced with percutaneous fixation using an intramedullary screw.
"Functional recovery will be able to resume in a short time, compatible with the clinical situation," reads the statement on behalf of the professor who performed the surgery.
From what we can understand, no surgery on the foot was necessary, but on when the Aprilia rider will be able to return to the bike there is no definite news. As a reminder, next week is scheduled to be the last dress rehearsal on the Buriram track before the season kicks off.
