VIDEO - A complex challenge to repeat with Yamaha what was done with Ducati. Our commitment in Moto2 is also important to have the champions of the future. Maybe a technical collaboration with Alpine.

MotoGP, Borsoi: "We are bringing Ducati's winning mentality to Yamaha."

Gino Borsoi did not have much time to enjoy the magnificent success of Jorge Martìn in the 2024 World Championship, before literally diving into the new adventure of Yamaha-branded Pramac. A complex challenge, with the hope of working today to perhaps repeat with the Iwata manufacturer the results achieved through the long-standing partnership with Ducati. But it's not just about MotoGP, because from this season there will also be a Moto2 team, with Alex De Angelis who will be the helmsman of what will be to all intents and purposes a junior team for Yamaha in Moto2.

It wasn't enough for you to switch to Yamaha, you're doing Moto2 as well! At least you will have Alex De Angelis by your side.
"I'm the one alongside Alex. he's already good in his own right. He just needs some advice but I am very happy that he is on board for this new adventure with Yamaha, which is a great project. Yamaha is putting a lot of effort into all the new projects. Inside this great structure Yamaha wants to present this new way of looking at Moto2 as one of the spearheads of this new adventure. Because I consider that it is very important to try to have in all classes the young riders for the future. It is extremely important because Yamaha's is a 360-degree commitment and it is just a pleasure and an honor for us to be part of it."

You have for years also managed teams in both Moto3 and Moto2.
"Nothing new.The only thing is that we had to set up a team in two months with the holidays in between and as you can imagine it was absolutely not easy because we had to start from scratch, we didn't even have a screw and the good thing is that the team behind the scenes this winter has been working so hard. I have to thank them because they are working to make sure that everything gets in order for the first race, the riders are there, the bike is there, absolutely nothing is missing."

Instead looking at MotoGP, there is the collaboration with a Japanese manufacturer, but there are also many Italians.
"Definitely within the Yamaha team and group there are many Italians so it is also easier to understand each other. Talking and understanding each other was not difficult and they welcomed us very well right away, they opened their arms, let's say we became part of the family in a fairly simple way without any problem. In fact I must say they are listening a lot to our vision of racing, even how to work during the weekend. For anything we can help them with we are here to help. We have a mentality that comes from Ducati which is the best right now. But with time I believe that we will slowly be able to bring home the results that then Yamaha deserves and bring it back there to the top."

What did you think when Campinoti told you that you were switching to Yamaha?
"Nothing strange honestly, these changes happen especially after long eras like Paolo's with Ducati. It's true I had just arrived and I didn't have a very long journey with them even though I've known Gigi all my life. It fits though, because after so many years you need the changes. I remind you that I did 17 years with Aspar and then moved on to Pramac. Getting out of your comfort zone I've often experienced it on my own skin, it gives you that extra bit of adventure, that desire to start again and question yourself a little bit. Fortunately, thanks to the great rider we had and the team and Paolo we were able to bring home two titles in the last two years. Now bringing Yamaha to the top is definitely another big goal."

You have not been able to enjoy the number 1 on the fairing of your bike. How do you feel about having to start over from a certain point of view?
"I come from years when I was used to always fighting at the front, even before Pramac. Maybe I got too used to it, but it also takes that, it takes learning to start over from scratch, redoing the base and being aware of how difficult it is to even bring back a project like that Yamaha. It's part of an experience that then maybe tomorrow will serve me to be even better, so it's a challenge that I accept very gladly also because as I told you before Yamaha has welcomed us with open arms, they have a great desire to get back to where they need to be and they are investing a lot of money. I think this is the first time Yamaha has invested so much money. They've taken a lot of technicians, they're doing a lot of new things, so it's exciting this project, and then if we succeed it will be something again to say we've made history, just as we were able to do with Ducati."

Behind Alpine's sponsorship, is there only a commercial agreement or is there the possibility of having technical colaboration as well?
"Definitely Alpine is a very important brand. It will definitely give us luster and it is an honor to have such an important manufacturer on board. They are also involved in Formula 1, they produce beautiful road cars. A technical collaboration? There might be."

Any impressions of Miller and Oliveira?
"Right now it's still early, but even regarding the character of the two riders I am absolutely happy. They are two very professional and nice riders. Jack is very outgoing, maybe even a little on the edge on certain things but he has a great desire to improve and get results. Then he is a very nice person, he is serious and fair. Miguel is a great person in his own right, he knows how to talk to the guys on the team, he always thanks everyone in the pit, and he always seems to find a balance with the people who work with him. It's early for me to have real judgments, but I'm happy to have two guys like them in the box, who also have very different experiences and can help improve the bike."
