MotoGP, Barana: "At first, Marquez wanted to replicate Honda's style, then he adapted."

"I'm sure that, in the Barcelona test, he made comments similar to Bagnaia's. What's new ahead of Sepang? Several new parts, but the urgency is engine and aerodynamics."

MotoGP: Barana:

Last Monday, with the official presentation held during the "Campioni in Pista" (Champions on the Track) event organized by Ducati in Madonna di Campiglio, the Borgo Panigale company kicked off its 2025 for its MotoGP commitment. As we well know, team Lenovo's veteran, Bagnaia, will be joined by an inconvenient client like Marquez.

And precisely on the subject of the Spanish rider, whh just got back from a year at Gresini Racing, technical director Davide Barana spoke to Marca, who wanted to emphasize the differences between the two champions.

"Marc has a different style than Pecco. Speed in corners is certainly his strong point. His perception is incredible, especially on certain circuits and in certain corners. He can do things that are impossible for others. On our part, we can only try to indulge him in his demands and work on the set-up, which can do a lot. Chassis, configuration, weight distribution, and geometry can change a vehicle quite a bit," he said.

One of the aspects the eight-time world champion has had to work on in recent months is adapting to the Desmosedici's electronics. "When he arrived, he was trying to repeat what he was doing with the Honda, but then he figured out how our bike works and aligned himself with the other riders. For example, he likes a sharper engine, like he was used to having on the RC213 V," the engineer revealed.

As for the first kilometers ridden on the GP25, the Iberian rider made the red garage breathe a sigh of relief. "In Barcelona, he made similar comments to his teammate, and that's positive, even if we're still ready to follow two different paths," he added.

Although there haven't been many chances to see him on the track so far, Barana has already gotten an idea of what kind of rider Marquez is by looking at his telemetry. "As was said, his speed in corners rewards him. He's really perceptive with the front, and this allows him to get close to the limit and sometimes go over it. But this happens mostly in practice. In fact, he fell much less with the Ducati," he said, analyzing the situation. "He's a very complete rider, also in braking and, as a person, he's very intelligent, he's a worker, he understands situations, and knows how to motivate the group. He's a leader."

Finally, a comparison between the new bike and the GP24. "We further modified the engine, to the extent that, compared to the one tested at Montmelo, the two riders will have a different version for the Sepang tests, and there will also be new aerodynamics, an evolved frame and swingarm, as well as a brand new shape shifter. I don't know if we'll have time to test everything but, like Dall'Igna says, we're starting from an already good foundation, and there's no urgency. The engine, however, is crucial because it'll then be frozen, and so will the aerodynamics for the homologation of the configuration at the beginning of the year. For the other parts, if the comments are positive, we'll decide whether to add them during the season, maybe in Jerez, or afterwards," he concluded.
