SBK, Bassani: "If the race had been in Jerez, Bulega would've won."

"Nicolò is currently managing and playing. You can see the difference between Ducati and Bimota in fourth and fifth gear. Last year, he was like a cat playing with a ball of yarn."

SBK: Bassani:

Axel Bassani's Bimota was the only one on the track in Jerez during the second test day, conditioned by rain. The Venetian rider did several laps, 35 to be precise, while also having to deal with a harmless fall.

But he sees the glass half full and is already thinking about the next round in Portimão, scheduled in less than a week.

"Here, in Jerez, we did two half test days and learned a few things, including how the bike behaves, that changes going from one condition to another," he began. "Unfortunately, I also fell, but nothing major."

What's the feedback when it's wet?
"When it's wet, we're further back than when it's dry, compared with the other riders. Now I'm curious to go to Portimao and understand the behavior and potential of the Bimota. Let's say that, in Jerez, we gave everything we had to give, now we need a new track."

What has changed in terms of confidence in the rain?
"This is a new bike, consequently, it's always something new. The Bimota also has wings, which weren't present on the Kawasaki, so we have to deal with another aspect."

Have you had a chance to follow anyone on the track?
"Actually, no, except for a Ducati today. On the straight, you could see the difference between our bike and the Panigale, especially in fourth and fifth. We already knew that one though," he said, laughing.

If the race were tomorrow, who would win?
"Bulega would win then, for the rest, we can try to win. Of course Toprak is missing. If he were there too, I would've mentioned his name."

Nicolò seems to be ahead of the game. Is that true?
"He's managing and playing. In fact, just look at what he did yesterday. Every time he entered the track, he lowered his time. So I'd say that we still have a way to go. Last year, our opponents were racing like a cat with the ball of yarn, but we're closer this year."
