David Alonso is the only Colombian rider to have won a race in MotoGP and, obviously, also the only one to have won a title. His country wanted to pay him due tribute by presenting him with the Golden Altius Award as the best athlete of the year in a non-Olympic sport.
The prestigious award, given by the Colombian Olympic Committee, was presented in Bogota to the 2024 Moto3 World Champion. Alonso was voted by a jury of 37 journalists who decided to give him the most valuable award.
David had already won last year's Altius Award as the promise of the sport, a promise that was duly fulfilled. The Colombian, in 2024, won 14 GPs (an all-time record), including seven consecutive ones. This season he will make his debut in Moto2, again in the colors of the Aspar team.
