For Team Gresini this year, it's back to... normal. The year 2024 was a special season, with the possibility of having a champion like Marc Marquez on the team. The Spaniard is not just any rider and he left a mark on the Italian team, as team manager Michele Masini explains, "for sure a champion of his caliber will always leave emptiness, but I think we have on track the best project of the post-Marc period - he says confidently - There is still a lot to do together with Alex and we have a different project with Fermin. We have two riders with whom we will make two different paths."
What has Marc Marquez left you?
"He has given us a lot of experience and opened our eyes to so many things. Especially on how to treat the rider better, how to spur him on at the right times. I hope to pass this experience on to all the other riders."
What is still missing for Alex Marquez to take the decisive step forward?
"The 2024 season was not so easy, there were some characteristics of the bike that put us a bit on edge, but already in the first tests on the GP24 in Barcelona we found the right feelings and we are looking forward to getting on track in the tests to extract the full potential of the bike. I'm confident that it will adapt better to Alex's strengths."
As for Aldeguer?
"In the first test he performed very well, we could see that from the data, especially the times with the used tire. This although for a rookie it was a very difficult test because of the complicated weather conditions and the grip was poor. He performed very well, however, and we expect that we can take him step by step to make growth in the right direction. We are not going to pressure him and we are not setting any short-term goals, we want him to learn the riding style to adopt on a MotoGP bike. We will then see if from mid-season we can raise the bar."
There will be two fewer Ducatis on the track this year, do you see that as an advantage or a disadvantage?
"I don't think anything will change because our goal will always be to be with the first ones, which will probably be the two Ducatis from the factory team. We will focus on our package, which I think will be very competitive."
What is the plausible goal?
"To be the satellite team of reference for results, which are the ones that speak. Since 2022 we have won with all the riders we have had, and in 2024 we were third in the team standings, the first without official bikes."
Can at least one race be won again this year?
"This goal is always there. We are not starting with the aim of winning a race, but to understand after the first tests where we will be and what we can do. I hope not to leave 2025 without victories."
