MotoGP, Aldeguer: "No to performance anxiety, but I aim to be rookie of the Year"

"I'd also like to get a good result in Jerez. My loved ones and the fan club will be there, but I have to go step by step, because I have so much to learn. Friends in the group? I speak with Martin and Espargaro."

MotoGP: Aldeguer:

Among the 2025 MotoGP rookies, Fermin Aldeguer is one of the most eagerly awaited. The Spanisih rider came in only fifth at the end of last year's Moto2 season and was chosen by Ducati to replace a hotshot like Marc Marquez.

What are your expectations for your first year in the premier class?
"They're high, but it's best not to watch and listen to others. It's important to stay focused and do my job."

You're 20 years old like Acosta. Is he your reference?
"Yes, I hope for a season like his in 2024. Pedro was really strong, and I think I can do the same."

Was the lead up to this day stressful?
"I have to say, I was nervous before coming in here. I worked two days for photo shoots, since it was the first time for me, but it was still great. I'm happy to be there."

Are you already in touch with any MotoGP riders yet?
"I'm in touch with Martin and Aleix Espargaro who I've known for a long time and train with, but I also had a chance to talk to Alex and Marc about the bike. They told me to relax, because I have enough talent to do well. They have the best bike, and I'm on a team run by a family. The results will come on their own."

What has impressed you about the MotoGP as a bike?
"The braking. I'd say it is the most complicated aspect. With carbon brakes, you brake late. The first few times, I braked at the Moto2 spot, and my crew chief picked reprimanded me because I was anticipating too much, but then I learned. instead, you can feel the acceleration but, after five laps, you're used to it."

Who'll be your rivals?
"I have to keep an eye on everyone. My goal is to become rookie of the year, but I know I have to contend with the likes of Ogura, who's Moto2 champion, and Chantra. In any case, it's going to be important to watch the best and learn from them. Already riding together during the tests will be a good school."

2024 was below expectations. Do you feel you have to prove you deserve the Ducati?
"The pressure is always there. I'm not under any, but I know I have to do well and give it my all."

How's your relationship with Tardozzi and Grassilli?
"Good. They'support me. Even in Barcelona, they wanted to know my feelings and, in these days in Italy, they've been with me. They've given me peace of mind."

You signed on early with the Borgo Panigale manufacturer. Did it take long to get to the moment of that jump in the category?
"Yes. I wanted to win the title, but I didn't. The pressure, the mistakes, and the new tires made it difficult for me. I was fast but I erred in terms of consistency. however, the early contract didn't make me nervous."

And what did Carchedi tell you?
"To take it one step at a time. You shouldn't want too much too soon. In the end, I only did one day riding the Desmosedici, and I still have to collect information. Accumulating lots of laps in Malaysia will be crucial."

Did you have to change your preparation?
"I've been working out more because the races are longer, but I haven't changed the type of training that much."

What's the race you circled in red?
"I always want to do well, but I choose Jerez. My fan club will be there because it's the closest race to home, and family and friends are going to be there."
