Dakar: Docherty imitates Petrucci on KTM Rally 2, stage 10 is his

The 115 kilometers that took the Dakar caravan from Haradh to Shubaytah had a surprise winner: Michael Docherty. Before him, only our own Danilo Petrucci in 2022 had managed to win a stage in the Rally2. But, more importantly, the last time South Africa had excelled in a stage of the famous dune and sand Raid was back in 2003 thanks to Alfie Cox.

In about two hours of racing, the KTM Bas World rider was 1'20 ahead of the experienced Rui Gonçalves on the Sherco and 2'21 ahead of Tobia Ebster on the KTM Rally 2. Fourth place went to Slovak, Stefan Svitko, on a KTM, then young Edgar Canet who, also on a KTM, continues to perform well, despite his young age (born in 2005) and obvious inexperience.

One of the big names of the race, Skyler Howes on a Honda, came in only sixth at 5'59 from the first, followed by the Lithuanian, Arunas Gelazninkas, on the Hoto, followed by French rider, Benjamin Melot, on a KTM, and another transalpine rider, Mathieu Doveze, also on a Bas World's KTM. Rounding out the top 10 was teammate Toni Mulec.

As for the role palyers in the overall standings, leader Daniel Sanders only settled for an 11th place. The official KTM of the Stage-9 winner came in only sixteenth, just ahead of Tosha Schareina's Monster Energy Honda, fighting for an overall success. Even further back was the third contender, Adrien Van Beveren, 19th.

We end with a briefing on the Italians. The best turned out to be Tommaso Montanari, 34th on Fantic. Of note was Tiziano Interno's 47th place on the Rally POV, while Paolo Lucci was 76th. The Honda rider had a top-10 pace but, in the final stage,s he lost a lot of ground.
