Ducati's challenge in motocross continues, and tonight another important step was taken. In fact, at the Anaheim round, Paolo Ciabatti presented the partnership with Team Troy Lee, formed to race in AMA Supercross from 2026. This season the Desmo450 MX will make its debut in World Motocross, while we will have to wait a little longer before we see the Rossa compete in a very tough field.
"Supercross is something different," commented Paolo Ciabatti, " In 2023 we went to see some races and we went to see the first one this season. We are still considering and looking for our partners for the 2026 season and enter Supercross in that season. These are our current plans. We will take things seriously. We know it's not easy, so we will put all our efforts into this."
"We know that Motocross and Supercross are different things," Ciabatti continued, "so we will have to try to attract some riders, some of the top riders, and that will be one of the priorities, one of the keys to get there and do well. We also know that it is an expensive project. We are also working just to make sure that we find the right resources and do things in the best way possible. It's still early to make budgets, but we hope to get there later in the year and already be clear on who our partner will be and, eventually, who the riders will be."
Instead, the bike will debut on the U.S. market in July, with a decidedly revolutionary product for the category given the two technical features, between highly evolved electronics and Desmo distribution, a trademark for Borgo Panigale motorcycles. The reason for the debut starting in 2026 is also regulatory in nature. In fact, to be able to compete in AMA Supercross, a manufacturer must have imported into the United States and Canada at least 200 examples of the model chosen to race by March, or 400 examples by June 1.
