Dakar: Africa Eco Race, Andrea Perfetti involved in accident: stage 7 neutralized

An Italian rider was injured in an accident shortly before 1 pm during the 7th special of the Africa Eco Race. The stage from Bénichar to Amodjar in Mauritania was, therefore, neutralized at the refueling checkpoint at 241 km.

Andrea Perfetti, a Moto.it colleague, was the experienced rider. This was made known by the organization of the race through a statement explaining the dynamics of the accident: during takeoff, for technical reasons that are still unknown, one of the organization's light aircraft hit the refueling truck used for the participants.

Perfetti, who was making his competition debut riding the Honda CRF 450 n. 58 fielded by the RS Moto team, was involved in the accident and was immediately rescued by medics, who were already on the scene, and then evacuated by helicopter to the nearest hospital.

Perfetti, a.k.a. nick 'Perfetto', is one of the most respected journalists in the industry and also an experienced off-roader. He's been racing since his high school days, at age 15. With a law degree, he started working in publishing, first at De Agostini, then Motociclismo and Motociclismo Fuoristrada. He's been at Moto.it since 2007. In 2015, he took on the role of Head of Editorial Development. Since 2021, he's been Ambassador and Co-founder of Moto.it.

Andrea is regularly sending out information and videos from Eco Race with his usual expertise and irony. The photo is from one of his latest links where he smiles showing the helmet with his nickname on it.

News item being updated, more information as it becomes available.

At 8:15 pm, our colleague, Emiliano Perrucca from automoto.it, informed us on the following: The situation is now moderately reassuring. There's no evidence of fractures or major bleeding. Andrea is sedated, in order to undergo required tests and is responding positively.
