MotoGP, Meregalli: "Rins has never been in a condition to push 100%"

"He arrived at Yamaha not at 100 percent form and then there was the crash in Assen. 2025 will be different for us as a team by being able to take advantage of information from four riders."

MotoGP: Meregalli:

Alex Rins ended the 2024 season in 18th position with only two top 10 finishes at Aragon and Sepang to his name, while teammate Fabio Quartararo finished 13th and gave the occasional interesting flash of competitiveness. The aftermath of the accident Alex suffered at Mugello in 2023, plus the double fracture in his wrist and the one in his right ankle suffered at Assen last spring, clearly affected the course of his year, forcing him to miss some events. For this reason, Yamaha team principal Massimo Meregalli did not feel like criticizing him too much, blaming the lack of results precisely on his inability to be able to push hard according to his potential.

"He arrived at a moment when he was for sure not 100 percent, then he had ups and downs, he had another accident in Assen where he broke his wrist. For me he has never been in a condition where he could really push at 100% even if he always tried," were his words as reported by the Crashnet website.

Despite the difficulties there was still some progress. "Since two races ago, also he started getting closer and for us it's very important because first of all we know what he is capable of. But you know, being alone and fighting with all the others that have more riders on the track is a big disadvantage," declared the Italian manager with an optimistic look toward the future and to when the Spaniard, who arrived in the Yamaha box from Honda, will be in optimal condition.

"When Alex is in good shape we have at least two riders with which we can evaluate the information. For me, this will be very important next year when we will have four riders and this will give us important benefits," he concluded.
