SBK, Salvadori's girlfriend speaks: "He often wondered if racing really made him happy."

"He would've liked to face only two more seasons. He experienced a period of depression during Covid. I had imagined becoming as a mother with him. The accident? I had bad feelings."

SBK: Salvadori's girlfriend speaks:

On September 14th, Luca Salvadori died while competing in the Road Racing Championship in Frohburg, Germany, leaving everyone in the world of motorcycles and YouTube dismayed. Now, for the first time since that tragic day, his girlfriend, Veronica Culcasi, has returned to talk about him, revealing some previously unpublished background from that late-summer Saturday.

"The forecast called for rain the next morning and he was very cautious. He wasn't chasing a podium, he just wanted to have fun, and that's what makes me the angriest," she vented, speaking to Il Corriere della Sera and revealing how doubt was creeping into her boyfriend's mind about whether to continue with that very dangerous career.

"He often questioned why he was taking certain risks. He wondered if his passion really made him happy. They were questions that were the result of a period of depression he had faced during Covid. Personally, I never set boundaries. I was just trying to help him in his work of introspection," she claimed, revealing an important detail. "He had given himself two and a half more years before quitting. He wanted to win the CIVS and the National Trophy, which he had only come close to doing."

The accident didn't give him the opportunity. "When we said good-bye- I was upset and sorry that I couldn't gowith him because of work commitments. We were symbiotic. That day, I was having lunch with a friend and felt sick. At 4:30 p.m., I got a call from his videomaker alerting me to what had happened. I left with his father, but we didn't make it in time to say good-bye," Veronica said.

The despondency over her loss is compounded by the plans they had together. "With him, I had imagined myself as a mother for the first time," she admitted. Finally, Christmas vacation was different from what she had dreamt of. "Luca wanted to visit the Canary Islands and, when my friends suggested them, it seemed like a coincidence. When I was there, I experienced them for him as well," she concluded.
