Peterhansel forced to miss Dakar, but will line up on a bike in the Africa Eco Race

Always present since 1994, the French rider has failed to reach an agreement to participate in the 2025 edition of the raid with cars. On the other hand, we will see him back on the bike in Senegal and Morocco in Yamaha colors

Dakar: Peterhansel forced to miss Dakar, but will line up on a bike in the Africa Eco Race

On January 3, in Bisha, Saudi Arabia, the starting venue for Dakar 2025, a historic name in the rally raid between the dunes and the sand, that of Stephane Peterhansel, will be missing. First at the start of the grueling event back in 1994, the French rider has made his mark in 14 editions, six on a motorcycle and eight in a car, but perhaps because of this impressive visiting card he has been unable to find a team to sign him up.

Announcing the clamorous and unexpected forfeit was Stephane himself via social media. "For the first time in 36 years I will not be on the Dakar rally. All these yearws have brought me a lot of pleasure and emotions. But today I need a break, but that does not mean that I will not come back in one way or another," was his message opening up to a comeback in the future.

For the 59-year-old, however, the time for retirement has not yet come since, at the same time, he announced his presence in the Africa Eco Race that will see him riding a Yamaha Teneré, back in his beloved Senegal after crossing Mauritania and the famous Lake Retba. Next April, however, he will take part in the Carta Rallye staged in Morocco from April 14 to 20, again with the Diapason brand to which he is still contractually bound.
