Founded back in 1904 in Paris as "FICM, International Federation of Motorcycle Clubs," after a brief setback the project restarted thanks to the intervention of the English federation in 1912 and recreated at a congress in Paris. In addition to England, the 10 founding federations are: France, Germany, the United States, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Austria. In 1913 the first international-style competition was organized, the International six-day reliability trial, a competition still held today. So many competitions have been organized under the umbrella of the FIM: From circuit racing championships (MotoGP, Superbike, Supersport, sidecar, endurance, Rookies cup), to Motocross, from Trial competitions to Endurance, not forgetting rallies and track racing. Yet strange to say, the international organization had never had its own anthem to identify it.
Now, for the first time in its one hundred and twenty-year history, the FIM has commissioned its own anthem. Played initially without any prior announcement at the first FIM Intercontinental Games in Jerez, Spain, and then at the FIM Awards in Palma de Mallorca earlier this month, the FIM has now made its anthem official. This is te latest step in an FIM rebranding process that began twelve months ago with the launch of the new FIM logo and visual identity. The FIM logo and anthem will now be an important part of the recognition and identification of FIM events in the future.
Composed by Italian Enzo Dalla Gassa, the project was led by his compatriot Andrea Grigolato in partnership with the Hoodooh agency; the resulting musical score was played by an orchestra from Bucharest, Romania. Reflecting the many nationalities, various disciplines, inclusiveness and diversity, and sheer passion found within the global FIM family, the internationally conceived anthem will serve as the perfect aural reminder of FIM's values and goals.
Music supervisor Andrea A. Grigolato (Hoodooh) said, "I always thought that music is about connecting people through emotions, so speaking about emotions, we felt all the responsibility and honor of shaping the sound of FIM for many years to come, but, at the same time, we were thrilled by what we were doing. We felt free to explore these soundscapes and we had a lot of fun! Responsibility, thrill, freedom, fun... these are also the words I'd use if I wanted to describe what riding a motorcycle means to me."
Composer Enzo Livio Gilles Dalla Gassa added, "I was born surrounded by engines, worshipping everything that could be fast. This opportunity was pure magic for me. I'm deeply grateful because the entire path, from composing this anthem to presenting it at the FIM Awards, was my greatest experience in music till now. It has been a huge honor for me to compose this anthem for this legendary sport federation."
Thrilled by the outcome of this project, FIM President Jorge Viegas said, "The idea of having an FIM anthem was something that began not long after I first joined the FIM many years ago, so to have the opportunity to finally bring this concept to life at the close of the one-hundred and twenty-year celebrations is something I am very proud of. Like the new logo, the anthem signifies the future plans and aspirations of the FIM and cements the FIM family together in yet another way as we continue to collaborate more closely than ever to reach our shared goals."
