SBK: Endurance in mourning: Stéphane Egea passed away

These are difficult hours for the Endurance World Championship and the entire motorcycling world, shaken by the untimely death of Stéphane Egea. As the EWC announced, the French rider passed away at the age of 34 following an illness.

The entire paddock gathered around Stèphane's family and friends. He made his endurance racing debut in 2012 with the 3D Endurance team, finishing 4th in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. After defending the colors of the Atomic team and the 18 Sapeurs Pompiers team in 2015, competing in the Bol D'Or and Oschersleben, respectively, in the Superstock class, the transalpine rider  returned to racing with the Atomic team and finished second in the 8 Hours of Slovakiaring, also in the Superstock class, to then take part in the Bol D'Or with the National Motos team.

However, in 2021, is when he probably reached the highest point of his career, triumphing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the Superstock class, riding the National Motos Honda, and ending the season in 3rd place, partially thanks to a second-place finish in the 12 Hours of Estoril. Egea's last appearances in the world of endurance date back to 2022, when he reached a 4th place at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the 33 Louit April Moto team, went on to win with ITem 17 at the 24 Hours of Spa in the experimental class, and then ended the season at the Bol D'Or with Team Slider Endurance.

Besides competing in the EWC, Stéphane also achieved good results on French soil, where he finished 6th in the 2015 Promosport 600 Cup and 4th two years later in the Promosport 1000 Cup.

The GPone.com editorial staff sends its heartfelt condolences to Stèphane Egea's family.
