The news was in the air and now the it's been made official: MotoGP will return to race in Brazil starting in 2026, after reaching a five-year agreement with the Goiás government and Brasil Motorsport.
Hosting the championship until 2030, once circuit modernization work is completed, will be the Goiânia International Racetrack Ayrton Senna, already the site of a Grand Prix from 1987 to 1989. For the championship, therefore, it will be a return after two decades to the South American country, which boasts a great passion for MotoGP and a talented representative such as Diogo Moreira, Rookie of the Year 2024 in Moto2.
Brazil, as well as the whole of South America, represents an important market for MotoGP, which in the coming seasons aims to exponentially expand its audience in these territories. To bring the event to life in Goiânia it will be able to count on the help of Brasil Motorsport, a key force in the continuity and success of the São Paulo Formula 1 Grand Prix, in partnership with the Goiás government.
"We are very much looking forward to returning to Brazil. We have a good fan base who we know are excited about this news, just as we are eager to race for them again, and this new agreement also offers a fantastic opportunity to expand in a key market for the sport and our manufacturers," commented Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta. "Brazil is a key global player and somewhere we have always believed deserves a space on our calendar. Working with the government of Goiás and Brasil Motorsport, who have an impressive and proven track record, is an opportunity we are very excited to take."
Also enthusiastic is Governor Ronaldo Caiado, who is aware of the benefits and growth opportunities that MotoGP can offer Goiânia and Goiás. "The return of MotoGP to Goiás is a historical landmark for us," he said, "Goiânia will be, for the next five years, the home of MotoGP in Brazil. We are working to ensure that the infrastructure and services provide an unforgettable experience for riders, teams and fans."
An event that also promises to be a great success for Brasil Motorsport CEO Alan Adler. "The Brasil Motorsport team has a history of working with major sports leagues and organizing major events. Based on this experience, I am convinced that MotoGP will be a great success in Goiânia," he said, "We'll have one of the most exciting sports events in the world together with entertainment attractions, strong brands and enthusiastic fans. A mix that is guaranteed to be a success."
