The total contribution raised by MotoGP to help Valencia has reached 1.6 million euros. The figure came from fundraising initiatives both during the Barcelona Solidarity Grand Prix and online, donations, and a final figure of 1 million euros added to the total by MotoGP rights holder Dorna Sports.
Thanks to the efforts of MotoGP fans, the on-site and online auctions raised more than 300,000 euros, all made possible by the generosity of the riders, teams and partners who donated items for each auction. The teams, through their IRTA association, also contributed an independent donation of 100,000 euros to the fund, while the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce donated 50,000 euros.
Through the sale of tickets, T-shirts, and more, every fan present at the sold-out Solidarity GP, or who followed the race around the world, made their own contribution, enabling Dorna Sports, owner of the MotoGP rights, to do the same. Instead of simply donating the profit generated by ticket sales, Dorna decided to increase its contribution in recognition of this collective effort and donate 1 million euros to the funds raised for Valencia.
The total of 1.6 million euros from all these initiatives will now go to the recovery of the towns closest to the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, Cheste and Chiva. These are the communities that usually receive the positive economic impact of hosting the season finale and are home to most of the people in the paddock. Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports, visited the two towns on the occasion of the announcement of the final donation.
