A new chapter has started in Barcelona for the VR46 team. During the first winter test, in view of Ducati's new factory-supported team, the Tavullia-based team (with test rider Michele Pirro) took to the track for the first time with the Desmosedici GP25, which will be entrusted to Fabio Di Giannantonio, who is currently injured. They also welcomed their new rider, Franco Morbidelli, who joined the team after a year riding the Pramac Racing team's Ducati. Great news that Team Manager Pablo Nieto commented on in an interview with DAZN Spain during the test day.
"Franco is an Academy rider we we already know very well. We know what he needs, and we'll try to give him that extra something to be able to fight in the top three or four. It's a project with a potential and, above all, to give him a continuity with the bike he already had this year," Nieto remarked, speaking of Morbidelli's potential. "After his time with other manufacturers, theorically, the second year should be better. Let's hope that's the case."
A new adventure that opened with a very positive first contact. "The bike is a little different than his, even if it's practically the same. He liked the grip, and that's important," he said. "He needed the test, especially to begin to get to know Matteo, and the team of mechanics and electronics, as well as to understand how to communicate his sensations and what changes he feels are necessary on the bike."
With Di Giannantonio forced to wait until Sepang to ride his new Desmosedici, it was up to test rider Michele Pirro to do the first laps with the VR46 team's official Ducati.
"It's fundamental, above all, that Ducati really understands what the 2025 bike will be like, because this isn't yet the definitive one, and this test will help us reach these conclusions," Nieto explained. "The bike that has arrived is completely new. From here, we'll see what small details they want to improve, but I think this is eighty-five to ninety percent of the foundation."
