MotoGP, Pirro: "I told Di Giannantonio to take it easy, the GP25 is better in everything"

"It is more like the Desmosedici 2024 than the 2023 and it is an easier bike. Radio communications with the pits? For me it's an interesting technology, also for safety."

MotoGP: Pirro:

The days that have just passed have been decidedly intense for Michele Pirro. After competing in the last race of the season as a replacement for the injured Fabio di Giannantonio, the Apulian test rider took to the track in Barcelona Tuesday to shakedown the GP25s entrusted to Bagnaia and Marquez. Quite a change from the Desmosedici GP23 of the Pertamina Enduro VR46 team, brought to the race last weekend.

"First of all it was cool, because the GP25, which is much more similar to the GP24 than the GP23, has a good balance and this allowed me to do well. Clearly here I missed the intermediate step of the GP24, which is our reference, but I was not the one who had to make a comparison," he explained at the end of the test. "The GP24 is much more similar to the GP25 than the GP23, to which there is a big jump, but we will see if in the future we can find something to make the new bike even better. The new Brembo calipers? I tried them out. It was interesting to have a system with more braking power, which supports this level."

Despite having to entrust his bike to the capable hands of the ten-time Italian champion, Di Giannantonio did not want to miss this first day of preparation for the new year.

"For him, the whole team will also change a little bit, so it was important to start understanding what he wanted and needed, start making contact with the team and see the bike. Even if he is injured, it is important for a rider to be close, to understand how good the project is. The bike has a good level and he is looking forward to trying it out. As a rider I understand him and I think he did well to come, not to be left in doubt until Sepang - commented Michele - What did I tell him? That he can rest easy because the bike is a good step up from what he was using and it is easier because it has been improved in all areas. He just has to get himself physically right to take advantage of it."

The test in Catalunya was also an opportunity for Pirro to try out the new radio system developed by Dorna.

"I had already tried the one-way system, so here I tried the two-way, using it practically all day. You have to get used to it, but I found it interesting," admitted the 38-year-old. "I think it is the beginning of a path that needs to be developed, and we will have all next year to work on creating a good database to get this system right. It is a development that can be important in the future and I was glad to have contributed, trying to acquire as much information as possible."

Is it comfortable as a system? "It's still to be put in place a little bit, but I think in the coming months we can take a step forward," replied the test rider. "I find it convenient for giving information to the team about the behavior of the bike, which can speed up the resolution of a problem. It can also be interesting for safety-related communications."
