MotoGP, Marini: "Mir? Truthfully, I had a completely new Honda."

"There are so many things to fix on the bike and we started from afar. Aleix Espargarò? I talked to him. He has several interesting ideas."

MotoGP: Marini:

Luca Marini ended the Barcelona tests in an 18th position, with almost a second and a half from the Alex Marquez. The rider from Tavullia had a lot of work to do in the Honda garage and, since yesterday, he can take advantage of Aleix Espargarò's role as a tester.

If Mir wasn't at all happy with what HRC did before of the test on Catalan soil, his teammate had a different opinion about it.

"Truthfully, I had a lot things to try out, including an entirely new Honda," Marini said. "When you put a new bike on the track, it can't go faster than the other. That's because there are so many things to fix, and we started from afar. But I only wanted to focus on this one, and there's something positive there. I think Honda has done a good job in some respects, while there's still a lot to be done on others. I'm also happy for the new engineers whopll bring new ideas and knowledge."

Did you get a chance to talk with Espargarò?
"Yes, during the test. In fact, I was curious about his sensation and, I must say, he was very strong in his debut with our bike. I think it was very important for him to test the bike on a track where he has always been competitive. He has different ideas, many interesting ones. Consequently, we're aware that he'll have to adapt."

For the February test in Sepang, do you hope another new bike will arrive?
"The bike I tested today will be one of the two we'll have in Malaysia. If Honda has a way to make another one, all the better. However, we haven't talked about that, yet."

Do you think there's a direction to follow?
"The direction was clear since mid-season. It just needs time and the right people, who have now arrived."
