MotoGP, Acosta: "My rookie year is a 5, but at times I undermined the Ducatis."

"I picked up a lot of zeros and made a lot of mistakes, but I have reason to smile. 2024 was supposed to be about learning and it was, in 2025 I will have no excuses. Martin's title was deserved."

MotoGP: Acosta:

Pedro Acosta finished tenth at the Solidarity GP at Montmelo and sixth in the overall riders' standings behind four Ducatis and Brad Binder's official KTM. Ambitious and stern with himself, taking stock of his first year in the top class, the GasGas Tech3 team rider did not fail to point out how much did not function while acknowledging that he did a good job.

"Despite the difficulties I had, I finished my first season in MotoGP well, and now another one begins. How do I evaluate it? I would say 50 percent positively and 50 percent badly because there were complicated moments, but in many races I was competitive and fought at the front. I was not able to win, however, I have to be satisfied because this was supposed to be a learning year and I think I learned a lot, so I am more happy than sad. 2025? As I am official, I will have no more excuses. We have to solve all the problems we had, but I am looking forward to wearing orange," he said.

"The mistakes I made affected my year, I think I did 14 or 15 zeros, which is 35 percent of the races I ran. Was I hoping for victory? The will is always there, but problems that were not my fault must also be considered. Overall I have to be satisfied with what came, I was often the fastest KTM rider and I am sure I will improve. In these months I have learned a lot about the category, I have learned to focus, to give importance to Fridays, because not getting past Q1 compromises the weekend, to electronics, and to take things slowly. Worst and best moment? Sachsenring and Japan where I was close to the best and fast. In general I promote the many races where I got back together and battled with the Desmosedicis although I would give myself a 5 as a grade," he continued in his examination of 2024.

Dwelling instead on the setbacks suffered in the race, he explained, "I struggled with the brakes, which were difficult to manage from the start. Initially I was helped by the grip, then when it dropped it was no longer possible to go fast. At lap 15 I was lapping in 1'30"8, then I went up to 31"4, 31"6 and 32" that I didn't even set in free practice 1. That's how it went, hard to understand why. I'm not the only one who had these problems because Marquez has also been complaining all season."

Then commenting on his compatriot Martin's title, the Spanish talent said, "He was able to avoid the mistakes of 2023 and even if he didn't always win like here in Barcelona, he was super consistent, stayed calm and didn't lose time. Only Bagnaia deserved the title as much as he did. Since 2008 there has always been a Spanish winner in at least one of the classes? The fact that there is a very good school from a very young age means that there is a good palmares in the long run."

Starting on Tuesday for the 20-year-old there will be his adventure in the official team of the Mattighofen-based manufacturer. "Although the manufacturer is the same there will be new things. I will retain only the crew chief, the telemetry guy, the strategy manager and a mechanic. The others will all be new, including the tire people and the engineers. It will also be interesting living with a new teammate," he pointed out.

Finally on what impressed him about the top class, he admitted, "Initially I was focused only on myself and the need to get to know the series, then I noticed Marquez's speed, Martin's step forward mentally, Bastianini's comeback, and Vinales' ability to make certain rides with the Aprilia."
