You win some, you lose some. You lose even when you win. Jorge Martin is the new world champion, and tears aren't enough for him to express his happiness. Pecco Bagnaia counts the cups on the shelf and the mistakes he made. You have to know how to win and how to lose, what Jorge and Martin did.
THE GOOD - Champion of regularity, proof that well pleased is well served. And even much so. The Terminator and his coolness and the mask he put on to celebrate after a season during which he raced with his head. Jorge Martin gave the best possible gift to himself and the Pramac team, and raspberried the Ducati that didn't want him. A success worth double, because history can be written in so many different ways.
THE BAD - Pre-packaged skits are what we didn't know we needed. And in fact, we didn't. They taste like a microwaved, frozen meal. From the new logo on down, yet more proof that imagination is an unknown galaxy for Dorna.
THE UGLY - With the KTM he'll be riding tomorrow, Maverick Vinales has almost finished the list of bikes he can ride in MotoGP. He bid farewell to Aprilia (his savior after being fired by Yamaha) with a colorless GP and some assorted criticism. Another door slammed shut.
THE DISAPPOINTMENT - You have to be special to win 11 GPs in a year, but you have to be Bagnaia to pull it off and lose the title. Pecco entered the record book with a record he would've gladly done without. He was the strongest, but it wasN't enough. The elegance with which he left the stage to Martin is that of a champion who also knows how to lose.
THE CONFIRMATION - Marc Marquez the wolf is jealous of his vices. Even if there's only one placing up for grabs, he throws nothing way. The reconstruction is complete. Now he's waiting to wear red and see how high he can climb, again.
THE ERROR - Pedro Acosta was the only rookie, so the Rookie of the Year title is pleonastic. But KTM's Spanish rider made an absolute record his own: the record of falls. With 28 against 24, he beat a specialist like Marc Marquez. Only the suppliers are celebrating.
THE SURPRISE - The Pramac team, from the first to the last component. They call it a satellite, but now it's the world of motorcycling that revolves around it. It's a fairy tale made of passion, madness, and genuineness. Bravo Campinoti, bravo Borsoi, bravo everyone.
THE OVERTAKE - What (almost) no one has managed to do with Aleix Espargarò. The Spanish rider has a future as a bodyguard, but only for Martin. He could have ended his career with a podium for Aprilia, but he preferred to contribute so that he could have the number 1 on his fairing.
THE ANECDOTE - Who said the perfect number is 3? For David Alonso it's 14: the number of races won this year. Never before has anyone in any class managed that. What else can we add?
THE I TOLD YOU SO - Enea Bastianini: "We'll see on Sunday if Marquez really cares about a third place in the championship." When he said that, he was hoping he was wrong.
