MotoGP, Romagnoli: "Martin took Ducati's choice badly, but it was a relief"

"That situation of uncertainty about the place in the factory team bothered him, but in the end it gave him motivation. He may not have won as many races this year, but he managed and it all made a difference."

MotoGP: Romagnoli:

Jorge Martin is World Champion, and one of the architects of his success is certainly Daniele Romagnoli. His crew chief has followed him step by step over the years, helping him realize his dream of becoming a world title winner.

That is why 'Radar' - his nickname - showed great joy for this result that matured after last year's knockout in Valencia.

"Last year we were strong, but unfortunately we didn't win the title," the engineer told Sky, "maybe this year we didn't win as many races, but we managed this Championship and in the end it made all the difference."

What is the first image you have of Martin?
"From the first tests in Malaysia and Qatar I saw him different than the other riders. He was very young, but at the same time quick to learn. We made podiums the first year and then came the victory, something really extraordinary. I knew inside that he would one day be able to become World Champion."

How did he experience the lack of promotion to the Factory team?
"He took it badly, just like two years ago. That situation of uncertainty bothered him, but once he was freed from that burden, he found great motivation in setting himself to win the World Championship, and he did."

Today, as at other times during the season, you chose a different direction than the Factory team.
"We opted for a conservative choice, going for the medium rear to be safer, so that we could go all the way to the end of the race and not have any surprises like last year in Australia. Sometimes we went against the grain compared to the Factory team, but it paid off."
