MotoGP, Quartararo: "I didn't have the grip and speed to keep up with the others."

"Gaining a point wouldn't have changed anything. The pace was there, but I wasn't able to overtake." Rins: "Problems with tires and set-up, but I believe in the top 13 for the MotoGP."

MotoGP: Quartararo:

There seemed to be the makings of something better. Instead, the two Yamahas ended the Barcelona Sprint Race outside the Top 9 and with the usual issues that made it impossible for them to battle for better placings.

But Fabio Quartararo, who was 10th at the checkered flag, didn't recriminate the point he missed, since he wasn't able to move from his starting position. "It wouldn't have changed anything to get it. We had the pace to be faster, but I got stuck and, unfortunately, couldn't overtake. The potential was good, but I lacked the grip and power to keep up with the others. Compared to May, was the feeling better? Yes, a little bit. It was good to see Marquez close though because of the problem I had a turn three. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to overtake because the one on Bezzecchi wasn't an actual maneuver. I risked everything not even knowing if I was going to touch him or not. It's difficult because we're slow and, in terms of grip, it's even worse. We're working on it, but this track is very demanding in these two aspects," the French rider said, analyzing the situation.

If the rider from Nice had and uneventful race, his garage mate, Alex Rins, didn't get beyond a 16th place. "At the start, I made up six positions and felt competitive, but when I got to Marini, my tires were shot. I tried to overtake him. I was a lap ahead of him but, at turn eleven, I went long, locking the front, and I couldn't do much more. Overall, even though we struggle, especially in terms of traction and rear lift, we found our way, to the extent that I was able to lap on a low 1'40 or a high 1'39. So, tomorrow, with a little luck and starting off well, we can place ourselves between position ten and thirteen since, where the bike doesn't make it, I trying to make up for it," the Spanish rider said.

"I have to say that, so far, we haven't been able to continue to progress this weekend, like we did in Sepang, in the comparison with the other constructors. Beyond that, we have to keep working and believing. When you have a bad day and the bike isn't working at one hundred percent, the rider has to give something extra, and we're doing our best. Compared with Fabio, we're  in bad shape. In terms of set-up, I'm a bit lost and, today, at the end of the race, I reported to my engineer the same things like in Qatar, which means we couldn't find the most adequate one for me. I can't be fluid, and I find myself having to ask more of the tires and making mistakes. When you don't have the bike in hand it's worse," he concluded his reflection.
