MotoGP, Michele Pirro: "It was Dall'Igna who asked me to try the GP23."

"We knew its flaws already solved on the GP24, today the front end put me in crisis. The Sprint? I had other goals, I no longer have the ambition to be a racer but I had fun."

MotoGP: Michele Pirro:

The job of test rider sometimes takes you down strange paths. That's what Michele Pirro basically thought when Dall'Igna proposed to him to race on the GP23 of the absent Di Giannantonio over the Barcelona weekend. A GP23 with front-end problems already solved on the GP24, all just ahead of the end-of-season tests in which the GP25 will officially make its debut. In his position as tester Michele Pirro therefore has a privileged position in having tested all three models and is the perfect man to talk to about Borgo Panigale's upcoming development.

"I arrived at the first corner and I couldn't see anything in the middle of all the riders," Pirro joked at the end of the Sprint, "It was interesting to be here and test the GP23 with these tires, what are the limits, see the differences with the GP24 and GP25. I did my race in management, to try to bring home important information. It's clear that a bike like the GP23 with these tires needed something else that the GP24 and GP25 have instead."

You are the only one who can make comparisons between the three bikes. The difference between the GP23 and GP24 we have seen, the GP25 we will see on Tuesday.
"The GP23 was not born for these tires, today on the track I noticed that I had difficulty with sliding on entry. The movements and reactions you have on the bike are abrupt and often put a strain on the front end. Usually you expect the rear to drop, whereas today I went into a crisis to manage the front, I was often on the limit. The GP24 and GP25, on the other hand, have what it takes to handle that problem. As for the engine, we knew it runs slightly slower, but when Gigi has things in his head, he - he joked - if he makes choices there are always good reasons. So welcome to be back on this bike, although I wouldn't mind trying those of our opponents as well" - joked the Ducati test rider again.

In the race you beat the other test rider and got closer to the riders who have been doing it all season.
"My goal of course was not the race itself, even the track does not really suit my characteristics. I don't have the ambition to be a racer anymore even though I had fun, the goal was to bring home information and have the opportunity to always try new sensations. Maybe on Tuesday at testing I might remember that 1 percent where the GP23 has something more, although realistically I don't think so, so it was still interesting to do this test."
