The last Grand Prix of the season was looking rather complicated due to the track being moved, following the flooding in Valencia, to Barcelona.
To deal with the problem of low temperatures, Michelin decided to work proactively, with a super allocation of tires to meet any needs. A tactic that worked as explained by the head of the Clermont Ferrand-based company, Piero Taramasso.
"For this final Grand Prix at the Barcelona circuit, held after the floods that devastated the Valencia region, Michelin increased the tyre allocation to better support the riders. Four front tyre options and three rear tyre options are available this weekend. For the front, two asymmetrical tyres have been added, featuring a softer compound on the left-hand side. At the rear, an extra-soft tyre has been introduced, specifically adapted for cooler temperatures. With track temperatures ranging from 15°C this morning to 23°C this afternoon—and turns 2 and 5 remaining particularly challenging—all riders appreciated Michelin's proactive approach. All tyre specifications were tested, with selections varying based on bike setups and rider styles. Tomorrow’s final free practice session will be crucial for teams to finalize their tyre choices for the race".
